2018 GMC Sierra 1500

2018 GMC Sierra 1500

The GMC Sierra 1500 is widely regarded as one of the most versatile pickup trucks on the market. Over the years GMC has introduced several minor and major changes, but they’ve never forgotten the core values. Instead, they’ve emphasized the Sierra 1500’s strong points and further improved them. As a result, the 2018 Sierra 1500 is easily the most robust, versatile and capable half-ton pickup on the market. It’s so good because it far surpasses what other half-ton trucks have to offer, without gaining any of the negative attributes associated with larger trucks.

Exterior

Visually, GMC has invested a lot in making the Sierra look new and modern. And it has paid off big time. The front retains the traditional GMC grille but the headlights are all-new, featuring LED technology. As far as pickups go, this has to be the most distinctive one currently on the market. I especially love that it looks purposeful and effective like it’s always ready to go to work. It’s not an expensive toy you’re afraid to get dirty. The Sierra is meant to be driven and withstand whatever abuse you can throw at it.

Interior

The same principle applies to the cabin. It feels as sturdy as anything else I’ve ever been in. The materials are top-notch and the build quality is excellent. It really does feel bulletproof. There’s a ton of space for front and rear passengers, should you go for a double cab version. From all of the available trims, I’d personally go for the SLE as it offers the most value for money. Naturally, if you want the flagship you’ll be hard fetched to beat the Denali Premium package. At that level though, the Sierra 1500 is completely transformed into the most capable, do-it-all luxury pickup you can buy.

Engine and Performance

The base engine is a 4.3-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to the sturdy six-speed auto we know and love. Should you go for the 5.3-liter V8 expect 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Though it too comes with the same six-speed as the V6, you can get the newer eight-speed on SLT and Denali models.

Last but not least, the top of the range houses the 6.2-liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. It’s the most capable and pleasant-sounding engine of the entire range, but then again, it would be wouldn’t it? The 5.3-liter can sprint to 60 mph in just 6.6 seconds, and its bigger V8 brother takes that time down to 5.6 seconds. Just for the record, those are one of the quickest 0-60 figures recorded by a pickup truck.

Conclusion

It’s fast, extremely off-road capable, comfortable, and luxurious should you go for the correct package. It’s everything you want it to be: a daily driver, a workhorse, and the perfect all-around
